Bingwi Neyaashi Anishinaabek (Sand Point First Nation) is in the process of rebuilding its displaced community on the southeast shores of Lake Nipigon. BNA commenced operations with its Sawmill in 2017, which is located in its on-reserve Industrial Park and employs members and generates revenues by selling its green lumber to regional markets. The community is in the process of expanding its Sawmill to the production of value-added lumber, as well as utilizing the wood residue from its operation to heat its community through the implementation of a district heating system in the community. Work on both of these initiatives are in progress.
